The Eye: International Photography Festival. Aberystwyth, Wales Fri 29 June – Sun 1 July 2012

I had the good fortune to be back from Morocco in time to go to the inaugural version of what will hopefully be many occurrences of The Eye.

One of the most interesting speakers was Chloe Dewe Mathews; I am looking forward to seeing more of her work.

James Morris spoke about his recent project; working in Palestine. The photographs demand comprehensive contextualising; as they deal with a complex subject.

I’ve singled out these two photographers, but the Festival included many other prominent and lesser known ones. It was a stimulating weekend.

Weaving – looms

I visited some weavers near Safi. The looms are wonderful examples of finely tuned technology; minute working adjustments provided by apparently crude mechanisms; but in the right hands producing beautiful cloth.
